About Sean smith
Sean Smith is a film & video professional, based in Brooklyn, New York. At an early age, Sean was introduced to film through his Father, who owned a video rental store, and through relatives who worked in the field. He was exposed to independent filmmakers like Spike Jonze and Jim Jarmusch, as well as blockbuster filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Sean's early years with a video camera were spent shooting friend's band performing, skateboarding, and the occasional oddball short film. In High School, he produced, filmed, and edited 4 feature length skateboard videos for a local skateboard shop.
Moving to New York City in 2008, Sean attended the School of Visual Arts, concentrating in cinematography. Shortly before graduating, Sean began to work at the music venue Brooklyn Bowl, bringing his early love of music and film full circle. At Brooklyn Bowl, Sean worked to create live concert video with the production team, eventually making it possible for the venue to live broadcast concerts to the masses. During his 9 year career at the venue (he still occasionally picks up a shift at the venue) , Sean worked with artists ranging from Robert Plant, to Elvis Costello, to The Roots, Usher, and John Mayer, to name only a few. Sean expanded his reach to include working for The Capitol Theatre in 2016, a historic theatre located in Port Chester, New York. While there, he had the opportunity to work with top tier touring musicians, including Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Phil Lesh and Friends, and even the recently reunited Flight of the Choncords.
In early 2017, Sean joined the production team of the MTV Series ‘Teen Mom’, working on the 3 projects under that umbrella. In 2018, Sean worked as an integral member of the crew for the new series, ‘Teen Mom : Young and Pregnant’. In 2019 & 2020, Sean continued to work as a part of the production team for each show, contributing as a Camera Operator.
In the spring of 2019, Sean joined the camera crew for Trey Anastasio's project Ghosts of the Forest, camera operating for two shows at the historic United Palace Theater in Harlem, NYC. In the summer of 2019, Sean camera operated for a series of shows with Trey's other well known group, Phish. One of the stops included Bonnaroo Music Festival, where Sean joined the video crew in running the video for all the main stage acts. While there, Sean camera operated for artists such as Childish Gambino, The Lumineers, Avett Brothers, Post Malone, and other high profile artists.
In the future, Sean aspires to make content that not only satisfies his creative itch, but that people enjoy to watch and consume. He is currently touring with the band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, handling their live broadcasts at venues across the country, a position he has held since the band's inception in 2013.
